Ph.D., Information Systems and Cybersecurity, Nova Southeastern University
M.S., Library and Information Students, Florida State University
B.S., Computer Science, Kentucky State University
M.B.A., Business Administration, Bellarmine University
B.A., Business Management, Lindsey Wilson College
Dr. Carlton's research focuses on scenario-based, hands-on cybersecurity skills. She has worked for a major retail corporation in the areas of auditing and management as well as for a major university in the area of information technology. She has taught Computer Science, Cyber Engineering, and Technology courses since 2013. Dr. Carlton serves on the executive leadership team for the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management (IIAKM) and has published journal articles in multiple peer reviewed conferences and journals. She is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), National Cybersecurity Training & Education Center (NCyTE), and InfraGard, a partnership between the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and members of the private sector for the protection of the U.S. Critical Infrastructure.

Early on Dr. Carlton had hoped to work in accounting, but her plans shifted after encountering her first computer. She later found her passion for cybersecurity after researching the top nine cybersecurity skills for non-IT professionals working with experts from the Florida chapter of the InfraGard, along with subject matter experts from other federal agencies such as the United States Secret Services' (USSS) Electronic Crimes Task Force team and industry for her dissertation. Dr. Carlton believes the best part of her job is those she gets to share her classroom with...her students. The best advice Dr. Carlton received and hopes to pass on to her students is, “God first, family second, and all other things will find their place afterwards". She also enjoys learning and looks forward to sharing her knowledge with you, because "sharing the classroom with others is an educational experience that will stay with you for years to come".
